A BETTER SHORTLIST STARTS HERE
Match a sorghum cultivar to the beer you want to make. See the trade-offs, question the missing evidence, and leave with a trial worth running.
01 / WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE?
Filters are your screening preferences. Lab colour is not finished-beer colour. A missing onset is unknown, not high. Filters do not remove candidates already on your shortlist.
02 / THE SCREENING LANDSCAPE
Higher extract sits to the right. Clearer wort sits higher. Click a point to inspect the candidate; the ranked list contains the same values.
Points within each clarity band are spread vertically for readability. Clarity has only three reported categories; vertical offsets are not extra precision.
03 / BUILD YOUR SHORTLIST
The 12 additional cultivars in the full-dataset view are scored here with the same formula; their ratings are not listed on the decision page. Equal totals share a rank. Tied rows are shown alphabetically; row order does not break the tie. Scores are planning aids, not a probability of success or a qualification.
04 / THREE CANDIDATES, SIDE BY SIDE
Bard’s chose the red Blue Milo #4 on flavour. Its identity is confidential and it has no lab values in this table. Don’t invent a score for it—or assume any red will taste the same. Include a traceable flavour-led candidate in your trial plan if that is your priority.
05 / FROM SHORTLIST TO A REAL LOT
Select a shortlisted cultivar, identify the offered lot, then record the evidence you actually hold. Historical lab results never fill these fields for you.
A recorded “meets” status is your assessment with a document reference. This tool does not review certificates or approve a lot.
North American Sorghum Cultivars supplies the baseline rating and decision sequence. USDA Madison screening supplies the 25 cultivars and both germination lengths; comparisons and scores use only the 3-day records. Seed Standard 1, draft v0.3 supplies the evidence requests. The two DSC onsets are reported on the decision page from Veith’s 2009 K-State thesis, Table 3.6.
